Existentially Speaking

I have an idea.

I’ve decided to make a site where I can review books I’ve read or am reading. My purpose? Well, I dont’ know about anybody else, but whenever I go into Borders or Barnes and Noble, I get all wide-eyed at all the books; I never know which one to pick.

And yes, I admit, I am guilty of falling into the trap of judging them by their covers. But it seems to me, that the best cover, and the best sounding summary on the back normally ends up being a pretty crummy book, and money down the drain.

I am perplexed by writing. It is something that everyone can do, and yet, it’s also something that not everyone can do. The amount of wasted talent out there is staggering, while absolute pulp fiction is advertised and revered.

Also, this little site is different from the reviews you’ll read in magazines and newspapers because, frankly, I’m not getting any kickbacks from writing a good review. And I refuse to write a good review of a book if I think it’s awful.

So without any subjectivity, I’ll give you my honest opinion. If you disagree with my verdict, that’s cool, send me your take on the book and I’ll post it here, too.

For those of you who haven’t read the book in question, I’ll let you know if I think it was worth buying and then you decide whether you want to take the chance on it or not.

Let’s begin.

  1. I love your new site 🙂 It’s a really great idea.
I am definitely like that with bookshops and I also tend to get stuck in always-picking-the-same-authors trap.
    Good luck with it 🙂
